To check which settings you have configured, there is a filter in the Search bar. To the right of the Search bar is a filter button with a funnel icon that provides some options to easily add a filter to the Search bar. The Settings editor Search bar has several filters to make it easier to manage your settings. You can always reset a setting to the default value by hovering over a setting to show the gear icon, clicking on the gear icon, and then selecting the Reset Setting action. Notice that when you have changed the setting value to be different than the default value, you see a blue line to the left. You can now check and uncheck the Workbench > Activity Bar: Visible setting to hide and unhide the Activity Bar. You can further limit the scope to just those settings under the Appearance group in the table of contents on the left. Open the Settings Editor ( ⌘, (Windows, Linux Ctrl+,)) and type "activity" in the Search bar. However, while the public and media may have been dissatisfied with Harris' leadership, the vice president was doing exactly what was required of her, explained Amy Dacey, former CEO of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in an interview with DW. "Kamala Harris: The absentee VP by design," wrote the online newspaper The Hill, which cited the leader's lack of solo press conferences and scant one-on-one interviews as evidence of her fading into the background.īy her 11th month in office Harris' approval rating stood at 28% - 10% below President Joe Biden. "Exasperation and dysfunction: Inside Kamala Harris' frustrating start as vice president" read one CNN headline. Reports soon emerged of a string of departures from key staff members and press coverage indicated the new VP was a demanding boss struggling to handle her political portfolio. She became the first woman, the first Black, and the first Asian ever to take on the role. The White House seemed to embrace the new VP, using the tagline "Biden-Harris Administration," on social media to underscore the importance of the second-in-command.īut, in the months after Harris took office her leadership began to suffer. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden also spent eight years living there during his time as President Barack Obama's vice president. President Joe Biden, shown speaking at the vice president's residence in 2012, particularly enjoyed the home's backyard pool. Gore's daughter, Karenna, got married on the grounds of the residence in 1997, with Aretha Franklin performing for the bride and groom's first dance, according to The Washington Post. In a scene hard to imagine today, Walter Mondale even cooked a meal of fettuccine and grilled fish for 70 newspaper reporters at the residence in 1980, Denyer wrote. His wife, Joan Mondale, started traditions like filling the home with art on loan from galleries and entertaining guests and dignitaries. There were some kinks to work out after the Mondales first moved in, as the hot water often ran out and rusty water came out of the faucet in the bathtub, according to Denyer's book. The first occupants were Walter Mondale and his family in 1977, after he became the veep under President Jimmy Carter. The house became the vice president's official residence in 1975, but sitting Vice President Nelson Rockefeller decided to stay in his mansion in Washington, D.C., and did not move in. Prior to Number One Observatory Circle, vice presidents lived everywhere from apartments to hotel rooms to suburban homes, which became a headache for the Secret Service to always be changing security protocols to accommodate new residences. It wasn't designated as a home for the vice president until a joint resolution passed by Congress in 1974 over the objections of Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, who was living there at the time before his tenure ended. It has been reported that there are as many as 33 and as little as five, Denyer summarized in his book. Since the public is not allowed inside, no one seems to know exactly how many rooms the home contains because the information isn't released publicly for security reasons. The home was originally built in 1893 and was not designated as the official residence of the vice president until 1975 after congressional hearings. The grounds also house telescopes, libraries and a dedicated landing area for Marine One and Marine Two, the helicopters that transport the president and vice president, respectively. Video calls and more personalized video voicemails do make the app a lot more useful, and the new Data Saving mode will definitely increase Duo's appeal in markets where data is a precious commodity. It's Google's answer to Skype and FaceTime, although it's still lacking a number of features compared to its long-standing rivals. Google Duo is a free download on Android and iOS. Personalized video voicemails are now available on Android and coming soon to iOS. If the pandemic showed us anything, its that we can. Google is updating this feature to let users also add text, emojis, and even doodles to personalize their message even more. (Image credit: Zoom) The best video chat apps are perfect tools when face to face communication isnt a possibility. The feature lets anyone record a quick video message when the other party can't pick up or the caller just wants to send something quickly. When a person isn't available, Google Duo users can leave video voicemails, which are pretty self-explanatory. Google says it will be rolling out this mode to more markets in the coming months. Toggling on this mode will affect both the user and the person they're trying to reach, allowing both of them to save data usage in video calls. If Zoom is the best video calling service for professionals, Google Duo is the app to beat if you just want a free and easy way to chat with friends and family. With this feature, users can limit data usage on both mobile networks and Wi-Fi on Android. In addition to group calling, Google is also rolling out a Data Saving mode for select regions where networks aren't always consistent, including Indonesia, India, and Brazil. Google Duo automatically adjust call quality to the changing network conditions to keep you connected even when bandwidth is limited."Group calling is now available globally on both iOS and Android, and like all Duo calls and video messages, group calls are also encrypted end-to-end so your conversations stay private," Google announced in a blog post. In August of 2017, Google released Duo – a simple one-to-one video calling app available for Android and iOS. Video messages have been rolled out on Android and iOS today, and will be live globally in the next few weeks. Like all calls made on Duo, video messages are secure and end-to-end encrypted, the company has claimed in a blog post. Video messages automatically disappear within a day after you first watch them, but you can always save your favourites locally on your phone. And after you have watched their video message, you can tap the ‘Call now’ button to easily call that person right back. To play a video message you have received from someone, simply tap their icon. And if you are fine with the message, you can send it to your friend or family member, who will receive it on the Duo app. If the person you’re calling declines or misses your call, you can record up to 30 seconds of a video (or voice) message. Well, starting today on Google Duo, you can now leave a video message for someone who’s too busy to receive your call. We all have encountered times when we want to share some interesting moments like a culinary masterpiece or a friend raving about your favourite basketball team’s recent win with someone, but it’s a complete let down when the person we want to share with isn't free for a video call. |
